About Action Games
Action games are about pressure. They put a demand on your attention that does not let up, and the skill you build is not memorising a solution but reacting well when the situation changes faster than you can plan for. The genre covers a lot of ground here: side-scrolling shooters where a single hit ends a run, platformers that mix jumping with melee combat, and survival games that ask you to manage space against a crowd. What they share is that improvement is visible. A first attempt at an action game is usually short and a tenth attempt usually is not, because you have learned enemy patterns rather than simply gotten faster. They suit short sessions well, since most runs end in a few minutes and restarting is instant.
